Saint Petersburg, FL asked in Consumer Law for Florida

Q: Legality of towing company.

I was recently parked in a closed business across the street from a restaurant I was visiting. In this time, my vehicle was towed from the business. The towing company was cash only, no receipt, and unlocked my door to tow my vehicle. I had to pay $135 to get my truck back. Now I understand that I may have been in the wrong by parking in a location in which I was not supposed to, and was marked tow away zone, however, the whole operation of the towing company seemed very shady. Cash, no receipt, unlocking my vehicle. Is this legal?

I live in Pinellas County, Florida

A: It was probably legal, but I would have to review not only the statutes but that particular parking spot to be able to determine a full answer.

A: Sounds like it. A company is not required to take credit.
