Q: medical center which was doing ultra sounds of my baby before birth did not detected any problems.
after birth my son just went through 3 open heart surgeries and if he wouldnt be transported in time via helicopter to nearest special hospital he wouldnt make it. all of the nurses and doctors are telling me to get lawyer asap due to improper diagnostics, what should i do,? my son is only 2 weeks old and since then he is been just through so much pain and i cant even hold him or anything, he wasnt breathing on his own for the first few days, now he is in hospital bed with his chest open for already 2 days waiting for recovery after his 3rd surgery.
A: I'm sorry to hear about your terrible experience. First, jot down who says what and what happens. You have some time so first thing is to get your child on the path to recovery. Do not mention to anyone that you are thinking of suing --many doctors will be shy of treating your child if they think you are "fishing for a malpractice case." Clearly you aren't but they may take it this way or be worried about "being dragged into a lawsuit." So I would keep ears open, mouth closed. Just ask things like "gee, wouldn't this show up in other tests?" Then once your son is better contact a member of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. If you need names I can get you some. But understand, it isn't as easy to prove as it may appear with 20/20 hindsight.
