Virginia Beach, VA asked in Contracts and Landlord - Tenant for Virginia

Q: If I let someone stay with me rent free but with conditions and they break those conditions, can I ask them to leave?

He is my ex husband; we are legally separated and I have sole possession of the home.

He is bipolar and I found him sleeping in my garage about 6 weeks ago. I agreed to let him stay in my guest room until June 1st IF we went together to see his pdoc and he got back on his meds and followed his doctors orders, kept all appts, and respected me and my home...no drugs and no woman in my home.

He has broken all the terms...hooker in my home, on and off his meds, blew off his appt today, etc.

A: You may or may not need to go through formal eviction procedures depending on the length of stay and what was said. For a thorough explanation of what should be done, speak with a landlord/tenant lawyer.
