Q: How do I file a notice of objection to a car lien?

A lien was placed on my car by a creditor on behalf of my old landlord. I have ten days as of now to file a notice of objection or they are going to repo and auction off my car. How do I go about filing a notice of objection? What format is needed?

I spoke with the company trying to claim a secondary lien (I'm still financing my car), and they are saying they're in the process now of filing. I asked about payment options and they said the only thing I can do now is wait until the case is settled and judgement served until that option is available to me. I spoke with both the DMV and the company I finance my car through, nothing has shown up as of yet for either. According to the letter I received from the collector, I have ten days to file a Notice of Objection. I'm still within those ten days, is this why nothing has shown up for the DMV and my finance company? After I have paid my car off, would they be able to repossess it at any time, since they would have the title?

A: I suspect that someone is trying to scam you.

A creditor cannot repossess your car on the basis of such a "lien". Automobile liens are shown on the title. Is there a lien shown on your title or registration? Are you late in your payments? Contact the person or company shown on your title and ask them if this is legitimate.
