Q: I have been sexually harassed by my boss, I went above her head and told her boss about it and nothing was done.
Her boss wrote me a check and asked me if the issue would be dropped. Her boss also said they would have a meeting with her and get her to stop saying the nasty comments and touching me and she still does both. I feel unsafe and uncomfortable going to work. What else should I do? This is a seasonal job and the board ( her boss) told me to just keep my distance and get through another month ( that's when the job ends). They tried to pay me off to keep quiet but all I want is to feel safe and comfortable at work. What do I do!? Please help!
A: Since you put the employer on notice of this conduct, yet the conduct's continued, you may have a claim for sexual harassment/hostile work environment against the employer for allowing the harassment to continue after you complained. That claim would be started through your local human rights agency, the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. You may want to speak with an employment lawyer about assisting you with that.
