Q: Marrying a US citizen while on B1/B2 Visa, is it possible to change the status after marraige
I am 32 years scientist from Pakistan, i will visit this November to attend conference and on the same trip i want to marry my girlfriend. She is a US citizen from Crewe, VA. Is it possible for us to marry ? What we have to do to change status.
A: The main issue is that you appear to have what is called "dual intent" - you intend to come as a temporary visitor for business, but you also appear to intend to come on a permanent basis to marry your girlfriend. Coming to the US with the intent to stay is not allowed on a B1/B2. There are different processes for petitioning for a fiance or spouse.
