Q: my friend was charged with DUI and hit and run in maryland. i was in vehicle, police took my info. will i be charged to?

My friend was involved in a traffic accident; dui, reckless driving, involved in accident failure to return to accident scene charges. The Police didn't make me fill out a statement or anything but they took my information and said that I was good to go. Will I be charged to? Do I have to get an lawyer as well? I want to be as prepared as possible for all of this. I don't have any charges, never done anything criminal, never had any traffic ticket or anything.

A: Generally, if you are going to be charged with a criminal offense, it will be done at the scene. It would appear that you will not be charged. If you are later charged, do not make any statement to the police; retain a lawyer at that time.

A: Unless someone were to claim you grabbed the wheel and forced the truck to hit a pedestrian, as you are a passenger I don't see criminal charges or other charges. Follow the ancient monk: Lei Lo.

A: What would you be charged with? The police took your information because you are a witness.

A: If this incident took place in Maryland, then you should ask an attorney licensed to practice in Maryland.

From the information you provided, it is unlikely that you would face criminal charges for a similar incident in Virginia. However, a consultation with a Maryland attorney would be able to better answer your question regarding that state's laws.
