Seattle, WA asked in Collections and Consumer Law for Washington

Q: A collection agency tried to coerce me into acknowledging a debt when I requested validation. Do I have any recourse?

I had verbally requested a verification of debt be sent to me in writing. I was told that they could not send me verification of debt without me first acknowledging that I may actually be responsible for it. I refused and insisted on them sending me something in writing. I have since mailed them a written verification of debt request. I was curious if I had any recourse for their actions in this matter.
