Spartanburg, SC asked in Consumer Law and Products Liability for South Carolina

Q: When a case is in settlement discussions what does that mean?

A friend of mine has a case against a manufacturer because she was hurt and she asked how her case was going and the secretary responded with the case is in settlement discussions but she is not sure what that means. I hate to tell her something and it be totally different.

A: Depends on the situation. Means ususally that there are calls back and forth, and the pace is dictated by the parties willingness to cut to the chase. It means people are talking, but early stages from what I see. Product cases are complicated, the Republicans made it very difficult to sue manufacturers, so if someone has her case they have a lot invested and aren't going to try to not get her money--they need to get back money for the time spent!
