New York, NY asked in Business Formation and Business Law for New York

Q: What licenses and permits do I need in order to form a simple subscription box business?

I'm launching a subscription box business that will likely be organized as a Delaware LLC. I live in New York, and that's where the company will be based.

In order to plan for costs and pricing, I've been researching wholesale prices online - many of which are hidden. We can't view the prices without applying for an account, which often requires one or more forms of paperwork. Some examples:

-Seller's Permit

-Business License

-Tax EIN documentation

Can I get any of those without first forming the LLC, and do they have to be from the same state as the LLC ends up being formed in, or should they be for the state I live in?

What licenses and permits do I need in order to form this simple ecommerce subscription box business?

A: While you can get those things before you form an LLC it would be a more difficult task to later change those things into the name of the LLC (almost double the work) so forming the entity first would be my advice.
