Tybee Island, GA asked in Federal Crimes, Criminal Law and Insurance Bad Faith for Georgia

Q: What should I do if I am falsely accused of disaster assistance fraud by my former landlord?

My landlord is accusing me of causing the water damages to my rental home in order to file a fraudulent claim with FEMA for disaster assistance. This is far from the truth. My landlord is the one who is committing insurance fraud of which I have proof. I also have witnesses and pictures that clearly show the damages were from flood water which entered the home around the front door and through a hole in the brick around an outdoor faucet. He did not have flood insurance and is trying to blame me for the damages so his insurance company will pay. This in spite of the fact that the homes in front of and beside mine were all flooded and we all lost at least one car to the flooding. A local firefighter who lived across the street watched the water entering my home. FEMA has now denied my claims stating the damages were not from the hurricane. What do I do about this? These are serious accusations!!

A: You need the help of an attorney. Since you are on the coast, I suggest trying either Mr. Cris Schneider in Savannah at 912-385-0854, or Patrick Ferris in Douglas, GA, but who has an office in St. Simons. 912-384-1099.
