Maitland, FL asked in Child Support for Florida

Q: My child support rate increased and I needed to pay 2 years retro would the be at the increase rate or the original rate

My child support was $300/month in PR. I had stopped paying while I was in school. My x-wife and I both ended up in Florida. I started paying child support again. My x-wife requested an increase so the support went to $745/month. The court also said I needed to pay 2 years of retro support. They calculated the retro at the $745/month rate instead of the $300/month rate. Was that a mistake and if yes can I get it corrected?

A: Yes, it's probably a mistake. When an increase in child support is ordered, it is not usually retroactive.
