Boston, MA asked in Immigration Law for Massachusetts

Q: I am Japanese citizen and applying for US Citizenship. I entered USA on 1/31/1974 with tourist visa.

I overstayed and in July or August of 1974 I was arrested and stayed in prison in Hattiesburg, MS for 24 hours. I was doing fundraising for a church by selling something when I met an INS officer. The next day our group of about 10 got arrested. I was released eventually after signing on something but I had no idea on what was going on due to my English incapability. On 6/19/1779, I got married with a US citizen and on 1/13/1982, I was issued a green card. Now my problem is I have not been able to get hold of arrest record that is required to be attached to the application. How can I get such record? I would appreciate it for your help.

A: Records may be obtained from three sources; the County Clerks Office at your county courthouse, the sheriff or police who took the original arrest record. In some cases for a minor incident such as this the record may no longer exist. If that is the case you will need a certified letter from the clerk and law enforcement stating that the record no longer exists.
