Q: I have a contract with a company that no longer has work for me. Do they still have to fulfill the terms?

The contract refers to me as a "Contract Freelancer." It specifies start and end dates. It states I am "guaranteed" an annualized base gross salary of X as well as additional benefits offered to regular employees (health, PTO, 401k, etc.).

The company informed me the project was canceled and they no longer need my services. They offered to pay me for the rest of the week plus 2-weeks severance, which I rejected. There is nothing in the contract that provides for early termination/cancellation, nor is there language referring to a specific project or any stipulations for changes in terms/scope of that project. I agreed to the contract as protection against this exact situation.

I understand the company's position, and I might be willing to negotiate other terms. However, I want be clear about my rights/position before I enter into any such negotiations. For example, the contract states the salary is guaranteed but it doesn't specify the benefits are as well.
