Bayville, NJ asked in Internet Law, Criminal Law and Libel & Slander for New Jersey

Q: Someone who answered my ad on craigslist is harassing me. They threatened to put my pics and information on craigslist

They sound like they are blackmailing me. They accused me of doing things I never did. How do I stop this harassment?

They even came to my house twice. I don't even know their name and they know my name. I changed my cell number so they can;t text me anymore. They tracked me down by e-mail. How do I get rid of them? Can I get an online restraining order against them? Have a lawyer e-mail them to stop contacting me and not to post my information and pics on craigslist? They are really obnoxious.

A: You can only get a restraining order if you had a relationship with the person and that means more than just friends. Your best bet is to have a lawyer send a cease and desist order and threaten them with a lawsuit. It may cost you several hundred dollars for the lawyer to do this, but its your best option.
