Q: Can someone help me on this issue about name change in Massachusetts?urgent?asap?
Hello!
Can someone help me?
I applied for a name change in Massachusetts and then today I received the letter from the court saying about my name change
It's written on the letter : "I, ( the Register of probate at the Probate and Family Court, hereby certify that after application and after due public notice the following persons changed their name as shown :
From : (old name)
To : ( new name I picked )
Which shall now be their legal name.
(do not write below this line- for court use only....)"
So,what should I do now??
Don't i have to go to the hearing in court? Don't i have to publish it on the newspapers?because everyone told me I'd have a hearing and to publish it!
Do I have to send it back to court because it's written "don't write below the line- for court use only "??
What do I do now?? Am I not required to publish on the newspapers or attend the court hearing?I'm confused!
Thank you very very much I'll wait for answers!
A: I would recommend contacting the Court or going there during normal business hours, if possible, brining this letter with you. Occasionally errors are made as we are all human, because yes, there is normally a publication unless the name change was part of a divorce which it is not, and you did not file and present to the Court a Motion to Waive Publication.
