Sault Sainte Marie, MI asked in Real Estate Law for Michigan

Q: In Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, the city is taking my house because of back taxes. There is no mortgage on the property.

When the city auctions my home and sells it, will I get any monies over and above the taxes owed and any and all fees incurred by the city? Basically, do I get the overage if there is one.

A: That's not the way tax auctions work. You need to stop the sale if you want to salvage anything.

There is help, but trying to do what you suggest here is not practical, and will only cause you to lose the house. Seek help -- there are options available even if the Step-forward Michigan program doesn't work for you!
