Q: Can I get child support now from when I raised my child alone? Her dad was incarcerated. Is out now and has a good job.
We both live in Illinois. He was incarcerated her whole childhood. There was never an order for support. She's an adult now, but I worked and raised her on my own. I am now disabled and struggling to get by. Her father learned a trade in prison and has a good job now.
I am trying to find out what the law is regarding this.
A: Normally, support starts from when a petition is filed or served.
