Schoharie, NY asked in Identity Theft for New York

Q: can i have my estranged husband arrested for his forging of my signature on DMV titles and selling the vehicles?

I filed for divorce and husband started taking assets every day while i was at work despite divorce orders. I then found out he forged my signature on 2 DMV titles to vehicles owned and titled in my name and sold them to friends without my knowledge or consent. He also backdated the titles. He supposedly "sold" them for pennies, but either got cash and wrote bill of sale low or he intends to get them back after divorce. have contacted the state police, DMV, and local police. No one seems to want to do anything. Its like they are all afraid of him. What recourse do I have?. I obtained copies of the documents with forged signature through FOIL . Thankyou for any help

A: Only the police can make an arrest. Thus, if you contacted them, and they will not, then they will not. You can sue civilly if you are correct.

A: Only law enforcement can answer that question. If you interest is to receive the value of the vehicles in your divorce this is very good evidence to use. Contact a divorce lawyer in your state. Check your credit report, if you find accounts you do not recognize, contact an Identity Theft Lawyer in New York. Kevin Mallon would be a good choice for a consultation.
