Q: How does a hit and run in texas work if it was on private property and a dog was killed

A friend of a friend came to my acreage and accidentally hit and killed one of my dogs with his car. He did not stop to render aid nor make an attempt to exit his car. He simply sped off my property.

A: Technically, dogs are viewed as property in most states. But the value is the value of the dog commercially the day of the death--it's pretty cold. So if your state has a dollar amount that would be something to look at too. If you want them cited then call the local cops and see if they take it. Some take private property issues, some just say they'll make a report but no citation. You can file a claim in small claims as well.
