Los Angeles, CA asked in Education Law for California

Q: I'm looking for assistance preparing for an upcoming SARB hearing. What is the best path to start on? What will I need?

2 yrs unemployed, no resources for great attendance rates of my kids. My children moved out of state and enrolled in school there. At that time the CA schools and truancy officer served me with a subpoena for SARB meeting which I didn't attend. I had already given proof of the new school enrollment, I asked for help with transportation and childcare and was ignored and my children and myself were discriminated against and opportunities for any positive progress were sabotaged for the schools benefit. My children have moved back to CA between April/May 2017, thr day after I enrolled them into this school district I received new SARB hearing phone calls with a woman literally yelling at me that they needed to be in school, I had my kids at the schools with all req'd documents ready...the school needs 24 hrs to give teachers a heads up on new students in class, I'm subpoenaed now since they were enrolled but absent without valid cause. I have gone to the schools for help but no options ?

A: You'll need proof that you have complied with the school attendance laws. If you failed to do so, you'll need to establish evidence as to why this occurred, hopefully being a good-faith and best-efforts basis.
