Q: I was served a 3 day notice a day before my city was given a mandatory evacuation order. Can they extend the time

I had to buy food and gas to relocate during the storm. So I have to work back up the money which will take a few days

A: The 3 Day Notice is the first stage of the eviction process. Under these circumstances, I would think your landlord would be reasonable and give you some extra time. I would communicate with them about your situation and even if you are only able to make a partial payment, do that to show your good faith in getting back on track and avoid an eviction against you. Even if they don't cooperate, you have some time. The next step would be to file an eviction action and have you served. You would then have to pay your rent money into the registry and you would have an opportunity to file a response with the court. Best of Luck! Jennifer

A: I suggest that you try to discuss with the landlord and hopefully he will agree to work with you especially in light of the recent hurricane. Also, you need to comply with the notice as best you can asap in the event that the landlord does not want to work with you as the courts will likely grant some type of extension of time due to the hurricane but it will likely only be a day or so extension.

A: Absent speaking to the landlord the law/statutes do not provide more extensions of time for natural disasters. And to be fair here, you owed rent before the 3 day notice was issue and the storm hit, so you were already late then. You simply need to pay rent rent in full today before eviction is filed.
