A: Because there are several statutory factors involved in determining alimony and property division I highly recommend that you meet with a divorce attorney as soon as possible. If husband has assets from which your counsel fees could be paid then a Motion to the Court requesting same along with the filing and serving of a divorce complaint could be the plan going forward. There is also Mandatory self-disclosure to be exchanged within 45 days of the service of the Complaint so if you don't have information concerning his finances filing a divorce is an important step.
