Q: Clerk of courts sent fine to wrong address and I didn't receive them for 5 years. Do I have to pay?
The fine was for a possession of alcohol I got outside of my home in 2012. I was 20 years old. I swear I paid the fine then and later that year I moved from the state.
The Clerk said they had been " taking it from my taxes, but I only worked in Wisconsin for two months in 2013 when I was home for the summer, after that never again. She also said that the IRS would have mailed me something as well that I can't say I ever received, and they should have my address.
I changed my address with the DMV when I moved that time, and probably 6 other times since.
The letter requesting I pay the remaining balance of the fine was finally received by my mother, at her new house they purchased this year.
I swear I paid it but its not in their records.
I can't believe they can mail me something to the wrong address for five years, and me still have to pay it.
Is it enforceable?
