Q: I am 17 in oklahoma but my family refuses to let me leave the house and get a job though I'm not grounded, any advice?
She screams at me and she threatens me when I ask to go to the doctor for health issues I am concerned about. I ask about my wrist and if it's injured but she says it's not and if I persist she threatens to break my hand. On other occasions she says anything other than school is a privilege, so a job to help out with school payments is a privilege or leaving the house to walk less than a mile is a priveledge. On multiple occasions she screams at me and I have no clue why because I'm not the best at comprehending situations. As I had clearly stated before I'm 17 but I feel like I'm imprisoned in my own home, and things that other kids have priveledge over I will never get close to having. She calls me in the middle of school dismissing work to scream at me for grades I struggle with only because I have depression and learning disabilities. I'm a disappointment, she says constantly and I never get praise for anything. Sorry for the rant, I would just love legal help right now.
A:
I am so sorry that you have all of these problems to deal with. Have you talked to your dad about this? Is he able to help? If he's not in the same home as your mother, can you go to live with him?
The best source for "free" advice with this is to talk with your school counsellor and ask for help. DHS also my be able to help, and get you out of the abusive household. I hope this can be resolved quickly, and sorry I didn't see your question earlier.
