Brookline, MA asked in Divorce and Child Support for Massachusetts

Q: My ex boyfriend or whatever he is cheated on his wife for a year and half . I’m trying to help her now.

He cheated on her and did an amazing job lying , keeping secrets and making me believe he was getting divorced when his wife had zero idea. We just got in touch and put 1+ year puzzle together. He abuses her emotionally and

they have 2 girls. He started to hide money from her We want t make sure his girls and her are going to be safe and prevent more damage. Will the cheating affect the divorce porcesss? And all Or any advice on how she could start this with out asking him. He refused because of the money. Is a legal Separation possible and would it be a good idea to keep things calm

While they figure out what to do? I’m out of the picture but I on her side .

A: Your friend should contact a domestic relations/divorce attorney and not wait to find out how much money he has secreted as it would be harder to reconstruct the longer she waits. You should be careful not to be drawn into the situation, and her concerns for the children's and her safety and well-being should be brought before the Court. If she fears for her safety there are abuse prevention orders which can be obtained. Conduct is only one of many factors in divorce but can effect the children.
