Q: Accident! I'm not at fault. I'm not reg owner of car. Is reg owner responsible? Me: no lic/ins Driver: no lic but ins

I was rear-ended at light by guy with no license but car insured. I have no license or insurance and was sighted for no valid operators license w/ valid ID. The car belongs to my roommate I'm in process of purchasing it and he's freaking out thinking he's going to get in trouble and be liable. Please help. I have bill of sale dated 5 days prior to accident

A: Your roommate is fine, nothing is going to happen to him. Make sure you (both) transfer the title when the sale is done, it can be a crime if you don't. In the meantime, respond to the ticket within 14 days or it will go to collections. If you contest or mitigate it, and get a license prior to the court date, your fine may be significantly reduced.

If you were injured at all in the crash, or the car was damaged, you should still open an insurance claim; the fact that you weren't licensed won't matter to your claim for damages. If you were rear ended the other driver's insurance will probably pay.
