Hagerstown, MD asked in Family Law and Juvenile Law for New Jersey

Q: Hello my daughter is 16 and has wanted to move out for years. Can I help her leave at 17? And what should I do to ?

She will be 17 in a few months has tried to leave by having DYFS called on us but the cases are always closed. She thought she could be adopted by a rich family. Anyway we've tried counseling with no luck. If I try to ground her or take away her phone for taking to an 18 year old boy she gets her friends parents to threaten us with the police to make sure she's ok. Which the police backed us up but she basicly makes us out to be monsters. She's making our lives hell, and I figured if I help her go maybe we can salvage some sort of relationship. She's close with most of her brothers but even they want to see her go. My husband is fed up and doesn't want her to come back. I asked DYFS to take her but they wouldn't because we're fit parents so we were left to suffer. I thought if she went maybe reality would hit home. I can't afford to pay for a boarding school or therapy facility. She's not violent but used to cut herself when she got mad at us. Shes so unhappy. Please help

A: Seek a psychiatrist. Right now there are no legal issues here.
