Q: My daughters father refuses to pay me child support. Instead, he makes me give him a list of stuff she needs.
My daughters father and I are not together. I live in IL and he lives in Michigan. I have her 99% of the time, she maybe sees him once every couple months. (His doing, because I allow him to take her anytime he asks). I believe he should be sending me some child support seeing that I am raising her all on my own, but he refuses to send me money. He wants me to give him a list of the stuff she needs and he will pick it up for her. Like I said before, we live two hours from eachother, and he sees her maybe once a month, which means I wouldn’t be receiving those supplies until I met up with him. He doesn’t think I need child support when he is buying the stuff she needs. This also ONLY consists of diapers, wipes, and formula. He claims he doesn’t need to “support me”he just needs to support our daughter. Now, I am in the process of filing for Child support through DHS, but it might be awhile before that is all settled. He is in the wrong here correct? And no, we do not have a court order
A:
You need to file a Petition for Parentage so as to officially establish him as the father and have the court order him to pay child support.
Go to this site to estimate what he should be paying:
