A: It may be wise to schedule a consultation with a competent immigration attorney who can ask you a variety of questions to evaluate your case and then advise you. Regarding how long the case may take, there are a variety of factors that can affect the processing time, such as, but not limited to, whether the beneficiary is married to either a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Legal Permanent Resident, whether the beneficiary has criminal history (and in some cases whether the petitioner has certain criminal history), whether the beneficiary has past immigration history, what is the beneficiary's country of origin, and other considerations. If you are outside of the United States, some immigration attorneys offer online consultations (e.g., via Skype).
