Q: My son is charged with CR 5-619 with a max penalty of $500 will this result in a misdeaminor conviction on his record?

Son was found in his car by police with a needle and spoon after crashing into a curb however they did not charge him for crashing into the curb. Officers gave him a field test to see if he was under the influence of drugs and he passed , and was allowed to go home however they issued a Uniform Criminal Citation CR 5-619 CJIS code 53550 what outcomes can we expect this would be his 1st charges we just moved to Maryland from Georgia.
