A: I agree with my colleague, only to add that the earlier you retain legal counsel in the process, the more options you will have available to you for resolution. If you have just been served, you have 20 days to file an Answer. If the bank made any error or if there is something unusual about your situation or the paperwork, it is best to address it within that 20 day time frame. If not, you may waive certain rights that would allow you to pursue different remedies available. Best to consult with a foreclosure attorney as soon as possible to determine your situation, your intentions and what resolution will work best for you.
