Q: Can i use the 6th Amendment in a family court hearing?
I am going to family court for a custody hearing. She has a lawyer and i do not. Will this work or should i do something else?
A: She has a lawyer, you are well advised to bring a lawyer of your selection. Make an appointment soonest to allow time for your new attorney to prepare. Sadly, there is no 6th amendment right to counsel in a civil matter in Rhode Island so the court will not appoint a Public Defender(except in termination of parental rights - DCYF -cases)
