Ashburn, VA asked in Child Support for Rhode Island

Q: In RI, are childrens cell phones included in child support? my ex just informed me, he will no longer assist in paying.

I asked him if he would help pay for their cell phones before I purchased phones and service via email, and he agreed to pay 50/50 even though the court ordered him to pay the greater of 75/25. Now the kids have had cell phones for over a year and he suddenly decided, it should be included with the child support he provides. I can not afford to cover the cost of both cell phones, and now I'm the bad guy if I have to take them away. Please advise.

A: If they are still minors and you have a written agreement for shared costs of extracurricular expenses including mobile phone costs, you may have grounds to file a motion to adjudge the father in contempt. Speak with your attorney to go over the details in a private forum.
