Charlotte, NC asked in Divorce for North Carolina

Q: Is our uncontested divorce legally valid if we never lived apart? We didn't "break up" it was for dire financial reasons

What are the consequences of our actions? We want to make it right and we would like to be rid of our divorced status.

A: If you are saying you got divorced by lying and without being separated for one year then who ever filed the divorce complaint is likely guilty of felony perjury and if the defendant went along with it, they are likely guilty of aid and abet felony perjury (which will carry the same punishment) and to top it all off if you divorced to avoid financial issues there could be fraud charges as well. In short, you are both likely in a heap of life altering trouble if you get caught. So your best bet is to consult with an attorney and stop admiring to felony crimes on a public forum.
