Asked in Adoption, Child Custody and Child Support for Oklahoma

Q: Oklahoma back child support/ non-biolgical father wants to adopt

I want to adopt my little girl, been her dad since she was 8 months old she's 4 now, her sperm donor has 7 kids, sees 0, none of them, hasn't paid a dime towards my daughter. I'm fine with that, but why is it that he still has a right to her, when he has shown no interest in being around from day 1 neither emotionally nor financially? I want my daughter to have my last name but since her mom and I aren't married I can't adopt her because of the donor that's never been around? What can I do to change this? The state needs to revise guidelines for this. Just because I'm not married to her mother doesn't mean that child lacks a stable, safe, loving home. We aren't your stereotypical Jerry Springer type case. This is ridiculous and want to know our option or who to talk at the capital

A: Yes, you will be able to adopt her. The bio dad shouldn't be a problem. You should consult an experienced Family Law Attorney, in your area, for help with this adoption .
