Q: Ex stole my dog. I paid for the dog originally, vet records are under my name, paid for vet bills, etc. can I sue?
Ex left the house we were renting and took my dog with him. I called the police but they wouldn't help me bc it was a "civil court matter". I have proof that the dog is mine, I have vet records, vet bills I paid for, I took the dog to the vet, even a notarized paper from the seller stating the dog was sold to me and only me. I was told that it's not a guarantee that I'll get my dog back bc he could simply pay for the "worth" or "value" of the dog and keep the dog since it's considered property. Is this true? Can I sue him and get my puppy back?
A: There are many indicators of ownership that can be used to prove it. You may have cause for a civil suit.
