Q: Joint Ownership in two family home in NYC
My brother-in-law and I are co-owners 50/50 in a two family home in NYC. He decided to buy another home and refuses to accept the offer of me buying him out. I'm assuming his next step would be for him to want to rent the section of the home. What are the legal implications? Will he be totally responsible for
A: His next step will be to leave you with the expenses or to rent his home. Your only remedy without a settlement is a partition action in Supreme Court.
