Yukon, OK asked in Family Law, Child Custody and Child Support for Oklahoma

Q: Absentee father since 3/2013. I'm having surgery out of work for 6wks-3mos. need assistance, but will he get visitaion?

Had same phone number since he and I were together. He has always known where we are. He hasn't even acknowledged his son. Not for birthdays or Christmas, just left from his last visit and never came around again. With the unpredictable nature of his personality I thought it may be for the best. He is now married to a woman with 3 children and I feel awful for my son, that his father has taken on this role for her children and totally cast his aside. I know what it is like to be abandoned by one's father; Although I need the support, I am not willing to risk forcing him into a life of visitation with a man who may up and decide to abandon him again with no warning. Right now he doesn't even know his father, so it is just normal without a one, but if he is forced to bond with this unpredictable man, and if that man then decides to abandon him again, he'd be completely broken. I know first hand how broken he would be. It's a cruel thing to put a child through.

Please advise.

A: I understand your mixed emotions on this issue, but you are right, the child deserves to have a father. Your best bet would be to contact a lawyer in your county to file a motion for child support. Do it, and see if he will "Man Up" and be a father to the child. Good luck.
