Erie, PA asked in Traffic Tickets for New York

Q: What do I do if I didn't send a plea in within 48 hours?

I recently got my first speeding ticket going 82 in a 65 and was not sure to send in a plea within 48 hours. Can I go to the town clerk to establish my plea before court or do I still need to send it in?

A: The 48 hour rule is an old rule no longer in effect. You actually have until the date printed on the bottom left hand side of your ticket.

A: The courts do not hold you to the 48 hours response time.

If you look at the lower left hand of the ticket you should see a date by which you need to respond.

Even if that date has passed, you will not be suspended for at least one month
