Hayward, CA asked in Criminal Law for Maryland

Q: Got a failure to appear in Anne Arundel County in 2014, petty theft. Bail forfeited.

In 2014 on vacation in Maryland with a group of friends. I got petty theft charge. a disagreement with a friends in our group. I was arrested spent a couple hours in jail, was released by the commissioner. I missed my court date and got a failure to appear and bail forfeited. I now have a warrant. I Graduated from college, it's popping up on my record as a warrant.

What I need.

I'm broke I need something affordable!

#1 ask to quash the warrant.

Is it possible??? to ask for the case to be dismissed while requesting warrant be quash?

# 2 set a court date ask for a dismissal the case is not worth a trial. The parties involved didn't want to press charges, the police officer decided to do their arrest anyway by being irritated with all the parties arguing loudly.

#3 do I own bail forfeit amount? saw a 10,000 own to Maryland State for bail forfeit. Can I turn myself in to clear that up?

A: You probably forfeited the bail when the court date was missed. You want a lot to happen for not having money to pay for a private attorney. That being said, you definitely need representation. I suggest you contact Office of Public Defender. If you qualify for their services they will assist you for no fee. If you have an outlet — such as a family member who can assist with funds - please do not hesitate to call our office for a consultation if the payor is able to help. But it sounds like PD will be able to help you.

A: Pay a lawyer to contact the State’s Attorney’s Office to negotiate a deal, possibly a nol pros because it’s been so long, or at least a quash of the warrant and a deal to dismiss for some community service or restitution. With no money, you’re looking at PD who will probably require you to turn yourself in first. Four years and still not a dime to your name? Times are indeed tough.
