Seminole, FL asked in Traffic Tickets for New York

Q: I was ticketed twice for a red light violation in NYC. Once from an officer and one from the red light camera. Legal?

I was physically pulled over and issued a traffic citation for a red light violation. After paying the DMV summons issued by the officer I received a ticket through the mail for the same violation from NYC Department of Finance. Date ,time and intersection match. I challenged the citation and submitted a copy of the summons issued by the officer along with the payment confirmation number issued from the DMV as proof of payment. I called to request a disposition from the DMV which I never received. NYC Department of Finance rejected the claim to drop the ticket based on not providing a disposition for the DMV summons issued by the officer.

A: There is a little bit of ink spilled on this topic.

You are better off asking that the officer issued ticket be dismissed over the camera ticket, because the officer issued ticket carries points, the camera ticket does not.
