West New York, NJ asked in Family Law and Child Support for New Jersey

Q: My second hearing is a few weeks and I have not heard anything regarding my genetic test. Will I receive before 3/29/18

So 1/25/18 I had a hearing, I was asked if I would like genetic testing and I took swabs at the court. The child and his mother lives in VA. I was told I would have to come back for a second hearing and I would receive genetic test results within a week and a half. Since then I received a letter informing me of the time and date for the second hearing but no genetic results. I'm fearful I won't get these results by my next hearing. I also have no clue what this could mean for my case as I believe I am not the father based on personal facts of my relationship with the plaintiff.

A: Thank you for your question. I know how worried you must be about the genetic test results.

The short answer is possibly. The genetic test results are not always mailed out prior to the second court appearance. The results are sometimes just given to the litigants at the court hearing. If there is any question you can always contact the Family Division and case management team assigned to your case who MAY be able to answer your question depending upon the particular circumstances of your case.

I hope this information was helpful to you.
