Columbus, MS asked in Child Support for Mississippi

Q: MS DHS child support enforcement agency set up an appointment with me.

I am separated, but not legally, nothing has been signed. I send $ for my daughter every month. Should I refuse to sign anything at the meeting with DHS? I believe they are going to try and strong arm me into signing a legal document to pay child support. They are threatening me with court action if I fail to show. I have broken no law, and again have not signed anything. My divorce including child support is still in mitigation. Please advise. Thank you.

A: Assuming that you are still going through the divorce, the best thing for you to do would be to consult your attorney if you have one. From how it sounds, your wife is setting up a companion child support through DHS to ensure enforcement of any child support provision of the divorce decree.
