Q: My apartment towed my car. can we do anything?

My apartment complex tows unregistered vehicles in their parking lot. Monday of last week, my spouse and I purchased a vehicle and had yet to get it registered. I went to the office of our apartments, explained the situation to one of the employees who communicates with the tow company, that we’d be getting it registered in the next few days. He assured me we would be fine, not six days later the car was towed. I went back to the office where the same employee told me I’d have to pay the tow. Do we have any power in this situation? It seems the employee simply forgot to call the company and now we are suffering for his mistake. We have family close and certainly could’ve kept the car with them however the employee seemed genuine so I took his word.

A: You may be able to sue the apartment complex for the mistake on the part of their employee. However you probably should immediately pay the towing company, to keep the costs from continuing to mount.
