Q: Is it ok for employer to withhold a raise because I won't work Saturdays?
I got a raise from $13 to $14/hour. I agreed to $14 and only got it as I said i'd work 1 Saturday a month. Otherwise they were not going to give me a raise at all. I asked for $15, but my employer won't agree to it unless I work every Saturday. I feel I'm being punished for not being available to work on certain days, that I explicitly said I didn't want to work when I was hired. I took on extra Saturdays during a busy period because they needed help. When kids came back from college needing hours I gladly gave them my Saturdays. During my interview I said I would start on $13, but wanted $15 after 2 months. I've been here over 6 months and feel I've been patient. I have been their top seller and consistent with my performance. I always receive positive feedback from my superiors. I've been told I have continued to improve month to month. I deserve this raise, especially when I'm aware another employee is getting $15, and both myself and my employer agree I work harder than them.
