Tampa, FL asked in Landlord - Tenant for Florida

Q: We rent month to month, our landlord sold the house but has not given us a written 30day notice. What are our rights?

My husband and I have been renting a house in Florida for almost 3 years. We have a 2 year lease agreement and then a month to month clause which we are currently in the month to month phase. We verbally told our landlord back in October that we were building a house and it would be ready April or May she said this would be fine & we could stay until then. She then sprung on us she was selling the house, had us put some of our things in storage in order to stay until June 1st which we have in writing in back and forth emails between the landlord and us. She has now sprung on us the house is under contract and we need to be out the first week of May. This was told to us verbally and we have not been given any written notice or 30day notice for that matter. What are our rights in this situation?

A: The law is that if you are on a month-to-month lease the landlord must provide the tenant with a 15-day written notice. Hope this help and good luck.
