Waltham, MA asked in Immigration Law for Massachusetts

Q: USCIS ask me to take biometrics to withdraw asylum

I applied asylum 3 months ago but then I received information from my home country that I am no longer in the danger of persecution. Therefore, I request USCIS to withdraw my asylum case shortly after I filed, before biometrics appointment. But USCIS responded that they will be able to withdraw it only after taking my biometrics. And they send me new schedule for Biometrics appointment. Is it normal process? What is the purpose of it? I am still in valid J1 status and planning to change to H1B1 when I graduate. After withdrawing asylum, would there be any negative effects on my future immigration issue? My heart is start aching. Any good suggestion is very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

A: Simply write a certified letter to your local Asylum Office withdrawing your application. There is no need for you to attend a biometrics appointment. https://www.avvo.com/legal-guides/ugc/asylum-winning-your-case
