Lyndhurst, NJ asked in Copyright for New Jersey

Q: AXS TV recently aired a series focusing on Rock Legends.

I was watching the episode about my favorite group and was completely surprised when they flashed a picture I took at the Beacon Theater NYC in 1974. I emailed AXS CEO and was told it was licensed through the production company they use. Do they owe me anything? I've never signed any releases.

A: If you can prove that the picture they used is actually yours, and that you never granted any license, then you may have rights. However, issues to consider are what terms you agreed to (hidden in the fine print) when you purchased your ticket -- often times, a venue will try to establish ownership of any content created within their establishment. We actually posted the following blog about this very topic on our website. Check it out: http://altviewlawgroup.com/blog/2016/11/15/know-your-concert-rights-4-legal-issues-to-be-aware-of
