Q: Petition my Mother who lives in Mexico.
Can I petition for my mother to become a US Citizen?
She was married to my Father an American Citizen. They are now divorced. I am an American Citizen and live in the USA, I would like for my mother to be able to come and stay as long as she pleases.
My mother doesn't have a criminal record nor has she been deported before.
She use to have a VISA but now that is expired. I want to help her find her path to citizenship so she can spend long summers with me and my son.
What do I need to do?
A: If you are at least 21 years of age, you can sponsor your mother to get a green card. However, she must then live in the US. If she only wants to be here in the summers, she should apply for a B-2 visitors visa.
